Why are we doing this?  In essence, because we like reliable answers to our questions, and we get really irritated when we smell deception.

With the world in the grip of an almost religious mania over the dangers posed by Catastrophic Climate Change, you are probably wondering why we have chosen to create this website and call it "Environmental Balance".

The initial idea for this site grew out our decade long correspondence on a variety of topics.  As Jade's 25 year long association with the Environmental Movement kept bumping up against Mike's strategic viewpoint and natural cynicism, it occurred to us that our joint approach may be useful.  Our intention was to address a number of Environmental topics, and provide a resource based on reliable research, established science, and a balanced viewpoint.  So much for our intentions, although we still hold out hope for our section on Energy.

For our first task we took on Global Warming/Climate Change.  We both had a number of questions for which there were no ready answers.  Our intention was to work by subject area with a format that presented established facts, contrasted scientific views and concluded with a brief synopsis and balanced assessment.  It took about a week of constant research to realize that this would not work.

Our examination of material supporting Climate Change contained few solid references, fewer established (and relevant) facts, and little hard material to actually assess.  This literature seemed to be based on predictions, possibilities and fear.  On the other hand, we found a very wide variety of solid scientific material from a variety of academic disciplines that presented a solid scientific basis for doubting almost everything we had read about Climate Change.

To retain as much of our original intention as possible, we are presenting the facts as we have found them.  It is sad, in a way, that what results is very much a contrarian view of Climate Change and Global Warming, but we are just following the facts as we have been able to find them.  In short, Mike has been very surprised by events, and Jade feels somewhat betrayed by this result.
